Bandung Institute of Technology Campus in Indonesia


Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), was established on March 2, 1959. ITB main campus is the site of earlier engineering schools in Indonesia. Although each institution of higher education who started the ITB has the characteristics and missions of each, they left influence on developments leading to the establishment of ITB.



History ITB began seja early twentieth century, on the initiative of the ruler of society at that time. The idea originally pendirianya primarily intended to meet the needs of technicians who become difficult because of the disruption of relations between the Netherlands and the colonies in the archipelago, as a result of the outbreak of the First World War. De Techniche Hoogeschool te Bandung stood dated July 3, 1920 with a faculty de Faculteit van Technische Wetenschap which has only one major de Afdeeling der Weg en Waterbouw. Driven by ideas and beliefs are based on the spirit of Independence struggle and insight into the future, the Government of Indonesia inaugurated the establishment of Institut Teknologi Bandung on March 2, 1959. That the rapid multiplication of information in the new century will demand the implementation of education berpercepatan, timely, integrated, sustainable, and is the best investment effort. In an attempt to enforce this ITB Degree Program on the foundation of the mastery of the sciences with a solid foundation so that graduates are always able to adjust to the changes that come quickly. Postgraduate Program in spearheading the improvement of quality and quantity, efficiency and effectiveness, and its relevance to needs, thus contributing to national development ITB will become larger and higher value. That the mastery and development of science and technology need to be completed and integrated, in a gait as a Research and
Development University. The development of science and technology in the ITB is based on the need to support the implementation of nation-building. Thus ITB will develop itself in research and manufacturing, communications and information technology, land-sea transportation and aerospace, environmental, and bio-technology and biosciences. That the mission of community service is expected to develop business insights for independence which is the initial capital to establish the autonomy of universities. Business Insights for independence is directed to achievement of the implementation of obligations and tasks of education and research as high.


ITB expected that development rests on the strength of the institution of the use of information as well as possible, maintaining a competent teaching staff of high quality skills and devotion, an integrated education system, and cooperation that are closely connected with government, industry and research and education institutions within and outside country. So that the planned developments can be monitored on an ongoing basis and measured by the implementation Tridharma universities, human resource development, physical infrastructure, institution of norms and procedures of work, as well as economic, social, cultural and security. That the desire to develop the ITB was revealed by the spirit and attitude that acknowledges the existence of ITB scientific truth, scientific truth can be approached through observation accompanied by a rational analysis. That the chase and search for scientific truth is the right of every human being on earth, and science and technology to be utilized as much as possible for the welfare of mankind, and the people of Indonesia in particular.

155 of 2000 has set the Bandung Institute of Technology as a State Owned Legal Entity.
State Universities with the status of legal entity is something without precedent in the history of Higher Education in
Indonesia. This was preceded by the publication of PP. 61 of 1999 concerning the Establishment of State Universities as Legal Materials which was followed diterbitnya PP. 155 of 2000 on Stipulation of Bandung Institute of Technology became the State-Owned Legal Materials. So with the publication of these 155 bytes, since 26 December 2000 and officially became a legal entity ITB as is any other legal entity that justified carrying out all legal actions that do not violate laws and regulations in force. The first consideration is reviewed in the PP. 61 in brief is the globalization that lead to sharp competition. So to improve national competitiveness required the company who can build a democratic civil society and able to compete globally.
